Arches by Meowgli Arches by Meowgli
* updated 18th July 09 - straightened =)

Another angle and different take on the undercroft of the cathedral in St Andrews.. you can see my original shot here [link]

Just playing around with tones and a slightly different approach to the processing... the shots were taken many months apart btw... not that much changes down there.

I do think it's somewhat tilted, but nothing Photoshops ruler tool can't fix in 10 secs :D

Much better now imo. The symmetry, arches, ... all get the attention they deserve now (before, the tilt kept distracting me).

The only improvement left that I can think of is taking the image again, exposed for the lights and blending it into this image, but I doubt tht's worth the effort :P

actually, I do have bracketed exposures ;)
I was going for a more highkey type look with the lights on this one, wanted to do something different from the previous one..

I love the slight tilt to it. Its almost like… like the world is falling apart and you can’t keep a foot hold as death sweeps about you. As I look at it I can feel myself tilting, like I’m about to fall of balance and into one of the caskets, plummeting into the endless darkness as the radiant white stone and mortar disappears from view. Oh that’s a chilling though yet not spooky. xD the shot has so much detail that it is hard to keep focused on one thing (which keeps you – or at least me- from finding a focus to help keep the balance), and seems to give it a sprit all it’s own. Very lovely. I love art that sweeps my imagination out from behind the door and takes off with me.

hehe so glad you like it.. hmm are you SURE it wouldn't be just that final little detail to straighten out the distortion and slight tilt? people seem to be quite liking it so I'm thinking of doing a slightly less sloppy edit... or does the distortion etc really make it? not trying to sway your judgement, give it to me straight.. =)

Well, I like it the way it is, but I say go for it anyway! That’s the beauty of computers right? You can always duplicate the file, then edit it. That was if it looks great then you win, and if it isn’t that last little touch then there is nothing lost ^^ It can’t hurt to try it.

except for the pain of more hours spent at a keyboard :giggle: nah I agree, I'll hopefully get round to it soon when I've finished these wedding edits for print..

thanks =) I'm still not sure if it wouldn't be better all evened out/straightened/undistorted.. but that'd mean starting the edit all over... maybe someday soon when I can find some time ;)

the tones, the processing, the angle......
no words..

and i do think its tilted. but cant really make it out. the left part is what seems to be having a problem.

and yep I agree.. should have correct it before cropping, to correct it will mean completely reworking the file =( maybe sometime soon when I can find some time to burn..!
