Mont St Michel by Meowgli Mont St Michel by Meowgli
*Updated 10th June 2010: this shot was long overdue a re-edit and it took the deadline of the 4eyes contest to give me the motivation to undertake it... in the end I wasn't satisfied in time so I didn't enter it, but have now had enough time to finish it to my liking. Damn deadlines :giggle:

I actually really liked the atmosphere to the original edit so tried to replicate it as best I could, but now the file is MUCH cleaner (no HDR or watercolour filter) and more photographic in nature... there's much less CA, better web sharpening, a better colour balance, less noise and no more clipped shadows or highlights.... which all means it should print better too. Took a few hours on and off to get it right (wasn't rushing this one) but I think I'm just about satisfied to call this edit conclusive.... do speak up if you have any thoughts for editing improvements though, however small they may be!

Another shot from my recent travels round France. This is Mont St Michel, on the north coast of France, and man was it busy when we were there - must have taken a good 3 or 4 hours queuing that day..!

Sorry about the 'watermark', I hate having to do it but am getting a little pissed when I see something I've created somewhere without acknowledgement or permission. My work isn't really stock, but if you were thinking of using anything of mine please always ask first and credit me and all will be cool =)

Anyway - the shot was created from a 3-exposure HDR image, run through a couple of filters at reduced opacity in ps, and given a bit of a colour boost, enjoy!

Thank you, had to wait a few hours for the clouds to part and to get a little bit of light to make the reflection that bit more interesting :)

The original was pretty cool but a little on the "HDR photomatix halo-y" side of things. This looks great! very much cleaner and more photographic in style. I think i should go back to some more of my old shots and have a look if i cant improve them... considering we are converging on similar post processing technique ;)

Cheers squire, yeah I'm quite pleased I finally got this to how it should be... I'm sure we all have niggling edits like this which would take a few hours to go back to and re-do, it's just finding the time and motivation to do em! I could give you a shortlist of shots of yours I reckon would go down a storm on here with proper edits :)

I find it fascinating that there's one of these off the French coast as well as one off the Cornish coast. I wonder if they both have similar history...

I've never visited the one in Cornwall though I'd love to. When I have a bit more spending money for a trip I'm considering staying with some family down there for a week or two and 'doing' Cornwall, and St Michael's Mount would definitely be on the list. It seems they DO have a similar history as the English one was also a fortress, family home and monastery at points during its history... :)

That's interesting to know, and I've wondered about it for time.

I hope when you do go that you'll get some really good shots, and even be able to walk across to it. It's one of those ones that's now denied me due to my disabilities, and it's really frustrating!!!
