Went out shooting yesterday looking for spots of interest in the area and found this old windmill on a hilltop with commanding views, surrounded by wheat fields bathed in some rare summer sun. I wasn't the only photographer with designs on this location and bumped into a fair few about the fields! This shot was taken just as the sun re-emerged underneath the low band of cloud near the horizon, in that 20-minute burst of light before day's end..
The mill is called Chesterton Windmill and was built sometime around 1632, possibly with assistance from an apprentice of Inigo Jones. It is a Grade I listed building and has been restored a few times over the years, although the mill itself is no longer functional. Suggestions abound that it was originally built as an observatory rather than a windmill, though this point is up for debate. This must be one of my local area's most celebrated and famous landmarks and apart from there not being many clouds I couldn't have asked for much nicer conditions for my first time seeing and photographing it...
Motionless, an expression of lack of motion and frozen atmosphere.
I liked how the title contradicts with the image itself, and it's a positive thing like an expression of "Silent but Screaming" or "Uncomfortable Silence can be so Loud" as when I look at the image, I see a video of simple movements, the air startling the plants and the mill slowly moving back and forth in an unstable motion with the air and the sound of the air moving through the aisles.
that feeling mixed with the colors and the atmosphere that the static image portrays yields a totally beautiful and one-of-a-kind photograph which is final cut that you presented here.
great job and hope to see more from you, Regards, RENO.
