Believe it or not these cascades are the top of the same falls as seen in the shot below. I wasn't even standing at the bottom in the other image, there were even more cascades behind me! Ahh nature, never ceases to amaze :) Sgwd Isaf Clun Gwyn, Brecon Beacons national park, Wales.

Just one or two more, then I'm done with falls for the time being!

Love this one the best. There is an interesting conflict between the level horizon and the titled sedimentary rocks that makes your eye linger while trying to figure out what is going on. On the technical side, this image seems to best control highlights in the water, some of the other ones come pretty close to pure white.

Thanks very much, I think this is probably my favourite of the bunch too which is weird cos I almost thought the shot was too plain and obvious... just goes to show it's always worth shooting the obvious ones as well as the more experimental/creative attempts! Cheers for pointing out the highlights too... blown highlights on waterfall shots are an absolute no-no for me so in fact they do all retain detail in the brightest parts... my monitor is calibrated slightly on the darker side so there is no alteration in apparent brightness when I make prints (how many people have you heard complain their prints always appear darker than their screens? easy solution there ;))... I'll remember that for the web versions of future images though and be sure to pull back the 'superlights' a touch more... cheers mate!

I just realized that I commented on this image twice. I saw the new post that linked to the old ones, decided that I like this one better. At least I am consistent

Hehe no worries, I vaguely remember your well considered comment from before but it's nice to have it confirmed anyway! I do the same too sometimes :)

This is gorgeous, and has an almost unreal feel about. No, maybe "magical" is a better word.
The moss gives the place a sense of agelessness, but the running water brings life to it that you can almost feel.
I am always astounded and in awe of your amazing photos.

it's a shame it's not quite on my doorstep or I'd be down there more often (bout a 3 hour drive), but it was a magical place to discover and explore for the first time :) cheers Phil!

Gorgeous set of Brecon Beacons waterfall shots, very nice. I spent about a day and half wandering around the various waterfalls in that area, thoroughly enjoying myself.

If I may say so, this image is, IMO, quite a bit better than the previous one. I find waterfalls to be one of the most difficult things to shoot. It is so easy to get a "yaw" shot (yaw=yet another waterfall) but most of the beauty is in the details, at least photographically speaking. My best waterfall shots typically capture a tiny fraction of the entire scene.

of course you may say so in fact I'm glad you did, I welcome opinions and critiques! that's an interesting point you raise in terms of how to approach photographing them, for example this one I personally really quite like as it is just a section of some falls which captivated my attention: [link] ... but which doesn't seem to have been as well received generally as the wider shots of the same falls in their entirety... but with the falls shown here maybe it's the other way around! :D I agree though, I think the top section here is more open to the light and has some more interesting colours and shapes in the rocks :)

well they're the nearest major national park to me and there's a huge amount going for them in terms of landscapes from what I could see... only got to explore a handful of waterfalls this time (my first visit)... I saw a lot of scope for return visits in future though :) cheers Pete!
