Description

A swaying field of yellow under stormy skies at Chesterton windmill in Warwickshire. I've been wanting to do a shot like this for a while now, with the foreground a sea of movement... I also shot images during lulls in the wind and with higher iso, so I have the same foreground a lot more stationary too but personally I preferred the movement. Interested to hear opinions on that, reckon it works?

When I arrived at the location, I was almost shaking with excitement as the rain was just beginning to give way for some pretty special light. I ended up getting gradually soaked though and had to work really hard to keep my kit dry and lens free of spots of rain, but it was fun running around the field looking for angles as the light continued to change. I missed a brief rainbow unfortunately, it crept up behind me and by the time I got to a place with a decent foreground it had gone again. Ah well, another time maybe!

Blend of 2 exposures. (*edit - I should mention the blades of the windmill have not turned for over 100 years).

I have mixed feelings about this image.
The colors, contrast, and setting are perfect, and the idea is great. There's just something about this image that betrays the fact that it's two blended exposures, and I think it might have something to do with the stationary windmill. The movement in the foreground flowers along with the storm clouds want to lead the eye to something equally as dynamic... I can envision the windmill's blades with a slight trail from the long exposure that captured the floral dance, but instead it sits idle. I would be very curious to see this idea with the point of focus (the windmill) a bit closer and/or larger, with a little movement, but still with the sea of flowers.
I realize that this critique sounds a little harsh, and I don't want to detract from the fact that it is an overall beautiful image, as usual. I look forward to seeing your other images from this location. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/>
