Under the Stars by Meowgli Under the Stars by Meowgli
I'm rubbish at coming up with titles, I sit there for ages trying to think of something inspired before deciding it's not worth forcing and that I'll think of something better later... suggestions welcomed!

This is a location I've had in mind for a night shoot for a while as I've always thought this bare(ish) tree would make for a nice focal point against the stars. I wasn't really feeling sleep come the small hours and decided while I was up and the stars were out, a mini-adventure was as good a plan as any. Once I had my kit and a few provisions packed up I stepped outside a bit bummed to find the sky had clouded over, but decided to try my luck anyway. Fortunately within half an hour of arriving at the location the skies cleared enough for a glimpse of the stars and I was treated to a fun hour or so's shooting before it clouded over again.

I really love this photo. And I think the clouds have really added to the entire shot. I can imagine it would be amazing without them too, but I like the "semi-silhouette" they help create. Absolutely beautiful to look at, as always!

Did you light the foreground a bit? Or is that from something else entirely?

thank you so much :) the foreground and tree are 'painted' with a torch over a 30-second exposure (I also shone it towards the background but it wasn't strong enough to make much impression)

Oh oh, just saw this one as I was looking your site, I really like it. :)
The tree is very beautiful and the other one in the distance gives a nice perspective effect, and the blurred clouds are well placed. Good job!

I see you got your first image published on 1x too? Awesome, congrats man. I wish there were more upload slots in a week though. I don't think you can vote to get an extra upload slot anymore either.. Shame, ah well I guess it makes it more rewarding :)

Hahahaha, I love the bit about the titles! I have the same problem. Well I'm glad you got out and took some shots b/c this looks terrific. The clouds that were there give a great color addition. Especially the moving ones along the top. Thing only small, over critical thing I have to say, is that the tree looks a bit soft. Maybe if you were to darken it a bit or something just to not make it look so flat IMHO. Other than that small, very small, thing, this is a dynamite shot. Wicked contrasting colors. :highfive:

I left out a large part of the story for the good of the kiddies but let's just say I wasn't in a fit state to drive so it's a good job the tree was within reasonable walking distance :giggle: The 'flatness' is probably a result of my dodging on the tree, bringing up the darkest shadows and doing a bit of dodging on the trunk.. think it's ok but I'll take another look at the fullsize file, thanks for the crit dude :D ... and yeah I never thought I'd actively like light pollution but it brought about some nice colours!
