Winter Wonderland by Meowgli Winter Wonderland by Meowgli
Unable to get the cars out to go exploring the UK's winter wonderland at the moment I've been wrapping up warm and venturing out a bit nearer to home... when I saw this untouched field of fresh snow I just couldn't resist, even though the sun had gone down nearly an hour before and the temperature was rapidly dropping.

Despite being entirely unable to feel my fingers by the end of creating this image, I'm pleased I managed to brave it as this is my portfolio's first real snowy night-time landscape :) 30 second exposure. Comments/crits/thoughts welcome as always!

Adam

very beautiful, I never thought that fallen leaves and dry trees would make me feel relieved, very good capture :)

Noice  Love the subtle blues, it's starting to look like this kinda scene is going to be more common in these parts now, you think?

Lets hope we get a white Christmas eh! Dunno about you but I don't remember ever having one! Been great giving the new bike a run for its money in the snow, got through 2 chains already tho!

I certainly hope so man, it's just so slushy, brown and blerrrgh when it all melts... much prefer a bit of powder :) I can remember about 2 I think, though one was very slight, maybe more of a frost but that still went down as "white" in my excited kiddie brain haha! ... reckon the chances are good for a proper one this year though! I think the snows came after Xmas/ beginning of Jan last year didn't they?

Surprised you can even bloody move in the snow, pretty deep here! Don't stack it man :D

Yeah was new year through to March when we had snow here!
It's not too deep here. Fresh and/or deep snow is quite grippy to ride in so I wish there was more :D Quite slushy snow here now, quite slippy! Heavy snow tonight apparently!

it is a 30-second exposure, shot with a D-SLR camera on a tripod, in manual exposure mode... during that time the clouds moved overhead, creating the streaking effect. hope that helps, and thanks!

Great shot however the long exposure doesn't make it work for me I'm afraid, but great comp though

oh really? fair enough.. I actually like it, I reckon it makes it look a bit more dreamy. is it to do with the moon's position at all, or just the overall cloud movement?

I'm not sure I think it's just the novelty long exposures people take with a x400 filter, however as it is a night shot I do have a lot more respect for it, maybe B&W will simplify the image more and add a bit more punch to the image.

I was toying with the idea of making this a full-on b&w actually, I think that might be a good shout... the original is very blue but I didn't really think the high saturation suited the cold feel of the image so added a b&w layer at about 70% opacity I think, which is what you see here :)
